The Surprising Facts Behind the Video Explosion.

Every business has a story to tell. Are you telling yours?

Recently, Microsoft put out a contest Call for Entries to all business owners. The challenge: Create a short video (under 2 min.) telling your business story. As the rules explain: “The object is to recognize the best, most inspirational and original video that showcases a small business start-up story and inspires other entrepreneurs and motivates them to excel.” I jumped at the challenge.

While it would be awesome to win or be finalist, I love the fact that I now have a short video that lets people know more about the person behind Big Idea Video. Since I believe in the value of “knowing, liking, and trusting” the people you do business with, I’m convinced this video will be an asset. Have you considered a video like this for your business? If you like what you see below feel free to give me a call to discuss how we might do something similar for you.

Top Video Trends for 2015

This week Momentology asked industry thought leaders for their perspectives on video trends for 2015. Thought leaders included senior executives from Google, AOL, and our own John Follis. John’s comment was:

“I see a continued explosion of animated, explainer-type videos. A couple of years ago, the term “explainer video” didn’t even exist. In 2015, I think most businesses and organizations will have one.”

What’s your story?

Every business has a story. The more unique it is the more a video is the way to tell it. Because if people don’t completely understand your businesses and how it benefits them they’re not going to be interested. Which is why more and more businesses, especially smaller businesses, are turning to us to help them tell their story.

Here is a video we created for a unique concept called Great Local Art.

A great animated video doesn’t always require fancy animation.

A great product video doesn’t always require fancy animation, but it does always require a big, compelling idea.

Recently, an entrepreneur with a great product asked us for a Big Idea video campaign. His product: an emergency alert iPhone app. It was a great, simple idea that deserved a great, simple campaign. Here’s what we created and you can click here to see the full campaign.

Business is Catching on to the Value of Explainer Videos.

This excerpted post from www.digitaljournal.com explains that “with advantages that include cost-effective branding opportunities, sales conversion and increased SEO , many businesses, including the major players, are beginning to look at explainer videos as more of a necessity than an option.”

For those who don’t know, Explainer videos are those short online videos that explain and illustrate a product, idea or service. The article points out that “These videos enjoy a strong foothold within the tech community as a way to explain new ideas simply, and also with many startups who use video overviews on their home page as a quick “get to know us” solution. But now, big business is catching up with the trend.”

Why Whiteboard Videos are so Effective.

Dr Richard WisemanIn a recent study whiteboard videos outperformed ordinary videos in memory tests, problem solving, shareability and overall impact. In the Psychology behind whiteboard videos – how they increase learning by 15% Dr Richard Wiseman describes those findings which showed a 15% rise in recall. According to Dr. Wiseman:

“Anyone involved in education or research will know that is absolutely massive. Normally you have to work incredibly hard to get 5, maybe 10 percent increase in any kind of behavioural measure like that. Simply by animation you’re seeing a 15 percent increase.”

Add some smart, creative thinking to a whiteboard video and the impact is even greater. So, if you’re ready for video and you want some that will get attention, recollection, and results, a Big Idea whiteboard video may be a great way to go.

Most Explainer Videos are longer than they should be, and less effective than they must be.

Explainer Videos are an awesome way to promote your business or service, if they’re done well. Here’s what you need to keep in mind.

1) You must grab the viewer’s attention in the first 5 seconds, and then keep it.  As with any type of commercial, if you don’t grab the viewer’s attention in the first few seconds, it doesn’t really matter what you say after that. Because few viewers will be watching.

2) Anything over 60-seconds is too long.  Peoples’ attention spans are short and getting shorter every day. In the context of online video 90-seconds is an eternity that most people won’t sit through.

3) An explainer video shouldn’t just explain, it should persuade. Most business owners who invest money in a high-quality explainer video expect to get a return on that investment. That’s why it’s important that the video is not just informative, but also compelling and persuasive.

A video marketing strategy, using videos with big, smart ideas,
is a way to beat the big competition.

Video marketing is one of the most effective ways to market any business, if it’s done right. With the right, simple, but big creative concept, your business video can get attention and results. And often the production costs for creating that video don’t need to be high.
